History
ORCHESTRA DO MUNDO is the name of an international orchestra

ORCHESTRA DO MUNDO is an ethical and intercultural project

ORCHESTRA DO MUNDO is a chance for those who haven’t got one

ORCHESTRA DO MUNDO is a hope for a better world

The idea of a world orchestra came to the minds of a group of musicians and social workers that happened, by chance, to be in the same place during the summer of 2003.
The group is composed of a wide spectrum of nationalities, religious creeds and professions, who all share in common a strong involvement in social projects located in Brazil, UK, Germany and Italy.

A world orchestra, from the world, for the world.

The orchestra is composed of musicians of Turkish, Finnish, Chilean, Brazilian, Spanish, German, African, Macedonian, Gipsy, Lebanese and Italian origin.
Their repertoire is a modern-day version of the cultural traditions rising out of these ethnic groups.
Themes represented in the orchestra, include old Santeria rhythms, immigrant songs, African drums, Kletzmer music and many more, all filtered and revisited in an electro-acoustic fashion with the enthusiasm and joy of people who have found in music not only a way of professional realisation but also a shelter, an aim, a chance to succeed and a source of hope.
All these different starting points are being reunited for a common purpose: to bring a transformation through music; in classrooms, at internet points and for teachers of the meninos na rua - the ghetto children of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Music is an abundant rough material in Brazil, and as such it can become a means to defend children from poverty, exploitation and crime, as well as an opportunity for a culturally enriching exchange.
