Why Brazil? Why Sao Paulo?

Sau Paulo with an estimated 16 million inhabitants including 3 million Italians
Because Italian people, more than others, have left their native land looking for a chance of a better life, and they have often found this chance in South America.
Sao Paulo has the biggest Italian community outside of Italy:
3 million Italians live there and a lot of districts, such as Bràs, Bexiga, Barra Funda and Bom Retiro, have been built by Italians.
They arrived in the second half of 19th century to replace slaves on the coffee plantations, but they soon became part of Brazilian society. Most of all as commercial dealers, participating in the city’s industrialisation.
Italian presence in Sao Paulo is hugely evident and influences every field af activity, from journalism to industry, theatre to cooking, even the “paulista” accent reveals an Italian influence.

Why music?

Because in Brazil music arrives even in places where running water, electricity and proper food do not arrive and so it often becomes a very important element for those that live in the favelas.
Because music is a simple and immediate way to involve and stimulate minds. A strong language creating a co-operative net that can give a chance to children to build inside their culture; learn practical and creative skills and help create a positive future free from poverty and ignorance.
